  4. Rockstar have released and forced a new launcher for their games. Even games that launch via Steam, it would seem you always have to be connected online and then launch the games themself via the Rockstar launcher. It's not a happy place on the GTAV Steam page at the moment - https://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/ It's also not a happy play on the LCPDFR forums either (mods are apparently not working correctly if at all) - https://www.lcpdfr.com/forums/topic/97377-rockstar-games-launcher/

  8. The Story of Virtuality - Nostalgia Nerd Ever since I laid eyes on these wondrous cyberpunk like machines in the 90s, I was captivated. Huge pod like booths, connected to massive, bright headsets seemed like the future; Virtual Reality seemed like the future. In a way it was, because W Industries and Virtuality created something pretty staggering for the 90s. Here was VR which worked, it was immersive and even better, it was affordable, meaning arcades, leisure centres and theme parks were quick to get their own pods installed. So join me on a personal quest of enthralment, as I look at the company and machines behind the original Virtual Reality boom of the 1990s.
  9. Someone has apparently died due to vaping. They developed lung disease. From BBC News: A patient has died after developing a severe respiratory disease due to vaping in the first such death in the US, say health officials. The US state of Illinois' health agency said the unnamed patient was between 17 and 38 years old. It comes amid an outbreak of lung disease across the US that officials have linked to use of e-cigarettes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said nearly 200 people have fallen ill from vaping nationwide. Source and more information: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-49452256

  12. Quite an interesting watch: Jason Scott - You're Stealing It Wrong! 30 Years of Inter-Pirate Battles Historian Jason Scott walks through the many-years story of software piracy and touches on the tired debates before going into a completely different direction - the interesting, informative, hilarious and occasionally obscene world of inter-pirate-group battles. A multi-media extravaganza of threats, CSI-level accusations and evidence trails, decades of insider lingo, and demonstrations of how the more things change, the more they still have to keep their ratios up. Jason Scott is a computer historian and proprietor of TEXTFILES.COM, a collection of computer history. This is a pretty good pairing, actually. He also creates documentaries on computer history and attends and speaks at conventions like DEFCON, making computer history. If you see him at DEFCON the choice is clear: talk to him about his cat. You can see more information about DEF CON here - https://www.defcon.org/

  15. If you travel a lot and you sometimes have no idea where you are, install What3words app to instantly give people your location easily: From BBC News: Police have urged everyone to download a smartphone app they say has already saved several lives. What is it and how does it work? Kicked. Converged. Soccer. These three randomly chosen words saved Jess Tinsley and her friends after they got lost in a forest on a dark, wet night. What3words divides the world into 57 trillion squares, each with a unique three-word address - WHAT3WORDS They had planned a five-mile circular stroll through the 4,900 acre (2,000 hectare) woodland Hamsterley Forest, in County Durham, on Sunday evening, but after three hours they were hopelessly lost. "We were in a field and had no idea where we were," the 24-year-old care worker from Newton Aycliffe said. "It was absolutely horrendous. I was joking about it and trying to laugh because I knew if I didn't laugh I would cry." "I have told everyone I know to download this app," Ms Tinsley said. "You never know when you are going to get lost and need it." What3words essentially points to a very specific location. Its developers divided the world into 57 trillion squares, each measuring 3m by 3m (10ft by 10ft) and each having a unique, randomly assigned three-word address. For example, the door of 10 Downing Street is slurs.this.shark, while the area across the road where the press congregate is stage.pushy.nuns. It was born out of company founder Chris Sheldrick's postal-related problems growing up in rural Hertfordshire. "Our postcode did not point to our house," he said. "We got used to getting post meant for other people, or having to stand in the road to flag down delivery drivers." Source and further reading - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-49319760
